What is your favorite holiday movie? We all have them – even the “grinchiest” among us love what holiday movies do for us. I personally think they transport us to a place where the story has a guaranteed happy ending.
One of our personal family favorites is the holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
It is such a beautiful story of George Bailey who is the responsible son with a big heart who takes care of everyone else and runs into trouble when his well-meaning but absent-minded uncle makes a mistake with the bank deposit. Combined with the embittered old Mr. Potter who is looking for a way to shut down Bailey Business & Loan, George falls into the deadly trap of extreme self pity and considers taking his own life as a way out of the financial troubles he believes he’s caused his family and friends that ironically he has served his whole life.
As women who give and give and give to others first, we can find ourselves in the same boat as George, coming up short and feeling like after giving all you have to serve others, now you don’t even have enough left for yourself when you need it.
And sadly all the statistics below point to that unless we do something different.
80% of women will at some point in their lives have to be financially responsible for themselves and ONLY 20% say they feel prepared.
What personal finance class were you required to take in school?
What mentor did you have that taught you about finances, if the school didn’t?
Did you know women still only make $0.80 to the dollar that men make?
Women invest 40% less than men.
What about the fact that women typically live longer than men, but have less to invest to support themselves.
Many women don’t feel comfortable talking about and asking questions about money.
My personal goal is to help women find a personal and financial worth that helps them know and be confident of their own value and the value they bring to this world.
You are worth so much more than I bet you can see right now, and I hope to help you see that. Imagine if you had the personal confidence and financial intelligence to do what you wanted for who you wanted. How different would your world be?
Thankfully George was rescued and brought to his senses with what his true worth was to his family and his community. He realized, of course, that without his contributions to his community, Bedford Falls would look very different. Well, so would your community. Without you being the best version of you, many will miss out and this world will not be all it could.
To see what I mean, I highly recommend watching “It’s A Wonderful Life”. I am quite sure you will realize just how valuable you are too and how different your world will be too when YOU realize that.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday because it really is a wonderful life.
