Perception is key. Think about the obstacles in your life right now. Bring them to mind. We all have them. What feelings do those thoughts produce? Overwhelm, panic, anxiety?

What if all the obstacles in your life right now were actually opportunities? What if they were exactly what you needed to get where you want and God wants you to go?

What if instead of being paralyzed, freaked out, discouraged, or irritated by them, you actually faced them…

👉 rationally
👉 clearly
👉 and as an opportunity

Bottom line: There would be nothing to fear because then there would be only blessings and opportunities (not blessings and struggles).

Not sure you have noticed but many successful people you and I admire have adopted that way of thinking. They were not born that way. They have trained themselves mentally.

John D. Rockefeller’s father was the son of a criminal who had abandoned his family. So not exactly an opportune start. But after 3 separate economic depressions, he held almost 90% of the oil market because of the way he approached obstacles.

Too often we react emotionally and lose perspective. That has to do with our mental fitness. We cannot necessarily control what happens to us but certainly how we react to it. Sadly, in this country, we have worked hard at avoiding suffering in our modern age so we are weak, seek comfort, and are easily rattled by challenges.

The barrage of constant apocalyptic news is overwhelming to us. We must train our minds as well as our bodies to be fit in this age.

We must be able to (on command) get to a place where we can (like the 5 components of physical fitness) demonstrate our mental fitness with:

🔹 Powerfully Positive Thoughts
🔹 Strengths-Based Living
🔹 Enduring Concentration
🔹 Flexibility to see things from different angles without getting rigid
🔹 Resiliency to recover quickly making molehills from mountains to be able to “shorten your fight time” as my fellow coach, Lin Beaty Ottenweller says.

This is what is required to turn obstacles into opportunities.

But as I said, this is learned. If you are not daily and intentionally training your mind on HOW to think – not just WHAT to think – you will be swallowed up by the pervasive forces which in today’s world are highly negative.

No wonder the increase in anxiety, depression, and killer lifestyle diseases. We must get stronger mentally even to get stronger physically and thrive during these times. Fear will kill you. Train your brain.
