I am sure we all agree life can be hard. And life is often full of hard things happening TO us at no fault of our own. We have all suffered at the hands of others no doubt. That is the reality we must face.

However, I continue to marvel at how hard things happen to everyone, yet some seem to have greater buoyancy through these times than others.

I have come to realize I play a part in HOW hard life is for me. 

I see that my

⭐ Responses
can really affect the degree of difficulty involved in a challenge.

My ability to process things quickly serves me well, but it can also steer me into ruin. What has helped me so much to make those “mountains into molehills” and not the other way around is to install a pattern interrupt.

When I hear something, it “triggers” an emotional response instead of running down the track with my flight or fight natural response. I am learning to say “Thank you for sharing that with me” or “Thank you for caring enough to bring that up or mention that”. Then I intentionally switch my brain from judgment (which produces a reaction) to curiosity (which gives me space and time to gather more accurate details and greater understanding). I can then start asking more questions for clarification, pressing the pause button for a moment.

Finally, concluding the questions with one simple response:
“What would you like me to do with that information?” 

Jesus asked so many questions…278 in the gospels. And most of them required deeper thought – not quick answers.

That is what I looooooove about our coaching here at LYV. We use what is called appreciative inquiry which means we continually ask questions of ourselves and our amazing clients that bring about a mental dissonance – questioning that pauses or leads to hard thinking that ultimately leads to a deeper embrace of the truth about themselves and others. That is always eye-opening and so refreshing.

THAT truth is FREEDOM.
