Do you feel your biological clock ticking? And I don’t mean for the chance to have a baby, but rather for the opportunity to make an impact, your mark, a legacy?
Time is precious and we can’t keep putting things off. I had two high school friends die in the last month, sadly one took his own life and the other a drug overdose.
Both had great educations and very successful families, but they clearly were not connected to the need the world had for them. They didn’t have the hope they needed that they mattered and could make a difference.
It’s a very sad yet real truth that we need to focus on so that we don’t fall into the same trap of believing that ‘you’ll get to it eventually’ or that ‘there’s always tomorrow.’
Your time is NOW. It’s time to focus on what you can do in the moment to make a difference – no matter how big or small. So, what is stopping you from making your mark?
Are you afraid of failure, or even yet, afraid of success?
Yes…I said it. Afraid of success.
So many times, we set a goal for ourselves and when we achieve it, we bask in our greatness only to realize that we now need to continue that uphill climb. Setting high expectations for ourselves keeps us focused and engaged. Yes, it’s tiring at times, but the rewards far outweigh the burden. It’s only when we stop expecting things of ourselves that we forget who we are, we begin to fade away, and like some, our lives end before we get the chance to discover our true purpose.
Maya Angelou said it best, “If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.”
Each and every one of us have a purpose and calling on our life. To believe that you aren’t meant to make an impact is believing a lie.
Start each day with the mindset that you are going to impact someone. Today, it may be as simple as smiling at a clerk that seems to be having a rough day. Tomorrow, it may be landing that new promotion you’ve been working towards, and now you’re responsible for a team. What an impact you can make there!
Whatever it is, live a life of purpose so that when your time on Earth is done, you will be remembered by the legacy you left behind. You have the potential to be great. It’s up to you to see it in yourself and not be afraid to share it with the world.
