Have you ever noticed that after you step out and do something new, bold, decisive, and on faith, it often comes with what I call post-event insecurities?
Have you ever experienced right after you do something amazing, I mean really push yourself OUT of your comfort zone and to the next level – you then have a flood of self-doubt, criticism, and attacks of imposter syndrome?
Maybe some is coming from outside, but it cannot harm you or even stick if it weren’t attaching to something inside.
I certainly have. 🙋♀️
In fact, it has become so predictable, that now I have developed my own Post Event Protocol.
After I return from an event that was special to me or I took a risk and tried something new and gave a lot, especially if this requires any physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional push…I take the first 48 hours and only allow my thoughts to be about ALL that was good. It is so filling to reflect and fill up with the progress, the smiles, the steps taken, and the accomplishment.
I journal listing ALL the good I saw happen, including personal progress, others’ efforts – any positive movement AT ALL.
I make sure to get the rest needed, extra sleep, good food, fresh air, and deeper time with God, filtering out problems to be either delayed, delegated, or deleted UNTIL I have fully recovered.
Then for the next 48 hours (or longer depending on the proportion of output), I then begin to look at what we call here on Team LYV the “learnings”.
Much to what some may think, I really am not a Pollyanna and only live in the fluff and magic thinking. I love results – real, tangible results.
But I have learned there is a right time and place for everything under the sun.
So criticisms, problems, and complaints are NOT well handled immediately following a big push. They often appear bigger than they are. In fact, they can do more damage than good with that particular spot in time being a vulnerable one. So use wisdom and get rest and recover well.
What has enabled me to keep going and keep building on event after event to grow my vision and my team?
My proper post-event protocol. It keeps me moving forward.
If you have a big dream you want to see accomplished, you may want to try this. We are playing the long game here to see the world be made better.
And after all…you cannot build on success you do not acknowledge.
