My friend and fellow adventurer and coach Laura Pollard shared a great quote with me. “Travel gets you out of your head and into your heart.”
Day 3: Las Cruces, New Mexico to Fredericksburg, Texas
Wow…Texas is a BIG state. We drove all day and are only about halfway through it. 😳🚗 We listened to Timothy Keller’s “Does God Control Everything?” message twice (I highly recommend it) and just marveled again at the vastness of creation and the complexity of our God.
So many asked us, WHY would you want to drive across the country?
But Joel and I have gotten to see things, learn things, pray and sing together, as well as talk through things we NEVER have the time or space to at home. I cannot tell you how much taking this time to make a transition this big is doing for us.
I have heard a reason WWII vets historically did better with PTSD than our modern-day vets is because it took them sometimes weeks when they finished at the front to get a boat and travel back to their homes. During that time, they were with their comrades and were able to process together as they journeyed back to their loved ones and to their ‘new normal’. As opposed to modern-day vets that get on a plane when done at the front and the next day they are back home with their loved ones trying to live ‘normal’ lives. It’s too much too soon to be able to make all the adjustments and process the enormous emotions properly.
Not saying I’m leaving the ‘front’…my California family, but this time together is priceless and I am enjoying every mile.
Not to mention pretty fun and romantic too. 😉❤️️
What about your transition? Whether you are physically moving or not, you are transitioning with this world right now. And if you are resistant to the change, you too may experience some form of PTSD. Be sure to take some time to process with someone you trust. That does wonders for the soul. And of course, I am here if you need me.
To your successful transition.
