Have you ever thought about what a lack of confidence costs?
Sometimes we think, “Oh I wish I had more confidence, that would be nice…” but don’t actually DO anything about it?
There are some things I have learned the hard way and allowing my confidence to be flagging is one of them. I guess I never realized that I had a say in how much confidence I have. I wrongly assumed some people just have it and some don’t….kind of a genetic thing. But when I started reflecting on all the times I shrunk back in life I actually got angry!
My lack of confidence has cost me…
1) Opportunities to learn – when I was too afraid to raise my hand to ask a question in school. And that makes me sad now, cause I love to learn and see what a gift school is.
2) Opportunities to earn – when I was too afraid to ask for a raise or get help to interview for that really exciting job I wanted when I graduated college.
3) Opportunities to get to know new people – when I was too afraid to introduce myself, argh….cause I’ve been in the space of some amazing people that I’ve missed meeting.
4) Opportunities to be closer to my husband – when I was too afraid to draw boundaries that would have brought a more authentic connection in our relationship earlier on.
5) Opportunities to be there and share in special moments with people I love – when I thought my presence didn’t matter. 😞
Well, I am really grateful I got mad enough to actually DO something about it and it has changed my life. Never again will I be a shrinking violet. Not when there is so much life to live.
