I know that is a rather dramatic subject line…but that is how I feel.
Either I learn and grow, OR I feel I am dying.

It is so interesting to me that I had to look up the stats on:
🔹 How we learn and grow as adults, not in school or in classrooms but out of school.
🔹 My questions were in regard to how much do we learn by…
       🔹 Doing?
       🔹 Sharing?
       🔹 Direct training or study?

According to research I found from an organization known as IES by NC State University, this is how professional development (learning and growing as adults) happens.

Most of what we learn as employees:
✅ 70% is learned through activities – we learn from doing, refining, and improving.
✅ 20% is learned through interactions with others, mentors, colleagues, and cohorts.
✅ 10% of learning is formalized or targeted training.

Because learning and growth are so important to me (actually in my top values and a strength), I feel it is absolutely essential just like food, water, rest, and air to me. As I said, if I am not learning and growing, I literally feel like I am dying.

Apparently, a lot of the women I have become connected with feel the same way. That is one of the reasons we started LYV – to enable continued personal, professional, and spiritual development for adult women no longer in a school setting. And wow, has it brought new life to many!

I’d like to say it is my absolutely brilliant curriculum and program, but in truth, I really think it is just that they have entered into an intentional period and positive environment of focused learning and growth again. It does wonders for the soul (and mind, and therefore the body, as well). 😀

I absolutely LOOOOOOVE hearing women say “I am doing and learning things I never did or learned before”…in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and even 70’s.

They come alive when they start learning again in a structured, grace-based culture where they can explore, test and tweak new ideas about themselves and the way they want to live and go forward in the world.

I absolutely love hearing the renewed vibrancy of 72 year old’s, the excitement of a 50-year-old, and the clarity and confidence of a 26-year-old woman.

Multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multi-religion groups of women that all have the heart to learn and grow and make this world better.

I call it a great human experiment that is proving to be soooooo amazingly effective and invigorating.

Talk about a fountain of youth.

Through my husband’s experience working in Cardiac Rehab when we were first married, we learned the importance of great data. Then from our time in the Navy training pilots and divers, we learned the power of experiential learning. Then from the ministry, we learned the power of belief and the mind.

We have taken that formula from above, along with research and our own personal experiences, to formulate a coaching approach that uses data, experience, and the removal of limiting beliefs to unlock women’s next chapters God has for them. We have created a program that women learn by studying and reading along with targeted direction and coaching. They learn through social interaction with other like-minded women. And then they learn by doing, refining, and improving exercises designed to help them discover, develop and distribute their gifts for greater income and impact.

NOW that is fulfilling!

My charge to you: If you feel dull, directionless, or discouraged, get back to learning.

Warning: Do not let it be just knowledge collection…that is merely a distraction. But let your learning set prompt you to action. Use something you learn today.

Just like faith without deeds is dead, so too is knowledge without action.

Cheers to all my lifelong learners out there!

XOXOXO,
Julie
