One of the questions I have gotten asked the most through this season of quarantining is “How do you stay motivated?” With so much mundane, staying at home, and not nearly as much interaction or possible inspiration available, this is more real than ever.
And since this has been asked more than a few times recently, I had to give it some thought.
First of all, I am honored that “they” see me as consistently motivated through this time. That is a compliment.
Then I thought through, what do I do to stay motivated? 2 main things come to mind.
One has to do with my physical, relational and spiritual well-being and the other with my mental clarity.
For the former, I have what my clients know are, my own Rules For Optimal Living. Those are rules I’ve written for myself that keep me at my best consistently that have to do with everything from my eating, exercise, supplementation, sleeping, viewing, listening, spiritual and relationship building habits. If you are interested in any more detail on these things, please reach out. But truly the physical and relational and spiritual habits I have cultivated enable me to operate at a consistently higher level and maintain my motivation even now. It‘s especially important to have these good habits in place in times of chaos. Otherwise motivation can really go out the window.
Then I am clear WHY I am doing what I am doing. Every task in my day can be traced to my own personal why, in other words the way I believe the world works and how I fit into it. That may seem obvious but you’d be surprised how out of touch we get at times with our own deeper purposes in life.
Symptoms that you are not clear on YOUR WHY? You feel confused, overwhelmed, certain angst about your daily activities, bored, or even burnt out.
We go into this in great detail on both of these things in my Live Your Vision Class but if you are not feeling motivated consistently then you are really missing out.
And yes, motivation comes and goes, but there are ways to tap into it more consistently and I don’t know about you but I don’t want to live at the whim of some fleeting feelings. I need to be able to count on feeling good!
Here’s to you getting and STAYING motivated.
