How do others feel around you? Not about you, but around you?
We all give off a certain energy and what some refer to as a ‘vibe’.
My question to you is how do others feel in your presence?
For most of us, we are focused on doing and getting things done and very little on the spirit with which we do what we do.
Our days consist of a focus on our “to-do” lists which we diligently try to work through. And often how we evaluate our days largely has to do with how much we get done in a day.
But what about how we make others feel along the way?
What spirit do we bring or what do others feel when they’re with us?
Have you ever given that much consideration?
As women, we are the thermostats in our communities; not the thermometers, meaning we have the ability to set the emotional temp, not just take it.
What if that were the focus and not the task list? (Being vs. doing)
Now I am not advocating abandoning productivity. I like checking things off my list and the feeling of progress as much as anyone. But I have really been asking others what they notice and how they feel when being in our groups and community and ultimately in our presence.
Something my mother often said to me growing up…
“Julie, people won’t remember much about what you said or even what you did, but they will remember how you made them feel.”
That stuck with me.
So as much as we do try to help people with what we say and what we are doing, it is also of premier importance how we make them feel in our presence.
Here is what people say they feel with us…
They feel safe.
They feel valued.
They feel encouraged.
They feel FREE to dream.
They feel refreshed.
They feel hope.
They feel relieved they do not have to have all the answers.
They feel ‘seen’.
They feel heard.
They feel inspired.
They feel called higher.
They feel challenged and excited to grow.
So just for today, maybe take a pause from conquering the “to-do” list and consider how others feel in your presence.
I have seen more often than I can count how many are highly productive, successful, beautiful and smart, and even spiritually minded but unaware of their effect on others.
Reflect with me…the minute each person walks in the room, the vibe is altered. Some bring more noticeable change like the energy that comes with either joy or anger. Some bring intensity and scrutiny. Some bring a dark cloud and negativity. Some bring cynicism and insecurity. Some bring light-hearted joy and curiosity. Some bring a calming optimism and faith.
What is your emotional resting state?
What energy do you bring with you most times?
Your presence makes a difference – the question is what kind of difference will you make? How do others feel around you? It may be one key to unlocking more of what you want in your life.
If you do not know, I dare you to ask. “How do you feel around me, please be honest.”
And when you do, I highly suggest you do not say anything but thank you, write it down and reflect on it for a bit. Do not negate or argue or dismiss it. Sit with it. Then think for yourself about someone who you enjoy being around. I am willing to put money on it, it is because of how you feel around them.
So just a thought to consider…
YOUR presence makes a difference. What kind of difference do you want to make?
