It is with very mixed emotions that I write this. I am about to go say good-bye to a friend. Goodbye because she has left this world to go on to be with our Father in Heaven following her battle with cancer. It is such a mixture of emotions because I am so heavily saddened by the continual thought of not seeing her and hearing her voice in my life but I am so inspired and called higher by the way she lived even until our last conversation.
Sydney Briggs Johnson was a talented and beautiful vocal artist, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She pursued her passion of singing and performing though not a big label girl. She served so many bringing faith and hope everywhere she went. She always made me feel like I was an inspiration in her life, but in truth, she was that to me. There is something so special about sharing a heart to give all you have been given to make the world better. She was my soul sister for sure. And Sydney truly lived each day looking forward to the future with a vision in her heart and mind. Our last conversation was about how she could help others with what God had given her including her cancer. We spoke about how and she happily went off to take action on the things we discussed. She truly was an action taker, and as a result, a difference-maker.
Now there is nothing like attending the funeral of a friend to make you take inventory of your own life. As hundreds will undoubtedly gather today to celebrate Sydney’s life because she made that kind of impact, I cannot help but think about what that day will be like for me and those I love.
This may sound morbid or self-centered, but at the end of the day, what is it that you want others to say about you? Though I really cannot let what others think and say about me now stop me from moving forward, I do care about what others including God will think and say about me then and it is with that in mind that I live my life.
And as you know, I believe we have all been given a unique set of gifts and strengths and if we will take the time to discover them, develop them and deploy them to help others we will make this world better and fulfill why we are here. And then on that final day when those we love and have loved us gather to say goodbye we can rest assured what will be said of us… “Well done, good and faithful one” and know we have completed what we came for.
Don’t put your life’s work off. God has a unique mission for you as designed by your unique strengths, values, passions and experiences. Get some help if you are not sure what that is. And I am here if you need me. If you want to know more about how just set up a Discovery Call here.
I will miss Sydney terribly. But I know she came and delivered and is now being rewarded for her heart and faith. I pray we will all be inspired to follow her lead.
