I recently read something by Brené Brown, “Our explanations are more important than our experiences.” – I agree. We have been talking a lot lately in our various groups about the stories we are telling ourselves and how powerful they are. They drive our behavior whether we realize it or not, and thus, they heavily influence our outcomes. Yes, we have talked for years here about thoughts becoming things, and not only talked about it but have seen it lived out.

We have watched women (who told themselves things like they “were not enough” and “could never do or be or have ______”   and that they must hide to protect themselves) begin to realize they are more than enough, they absolutely can do and be and have ________ and that it is time to rise and shine.

It is glorious to watch women slay lies and live truth!

That begins with questioning, what stories are you telling yourself?

If you have had a weakness, mistake, or sin focus for years in an attempt to push or motivate yourself or in order to prevent yourself from being lazy or proud, you can be sure that the stories you are telling yourself are heavily slanted in that direction too. 🙁

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you will NEVER reach your goals or have the life you hope for under THOSE conditions and with THAT focus or mindset. No amount of hard work and accomplishment will satisfy that pursuit.

Result: frustration, confusion, burnout, depletion, discouragement, depression, loss of hope, faith, health, relationships and quality of life are ultimately just some of what I have seen with that story running.

So what to do? Take time to pause and examine the stories you are telling yourself. THAT is exactly what we are doing here day in and day out with women from all backgrounds and nations.

Specifically, we are:
1. Pausing to acknowledge we have our stories.
2. Writing them down
3. Reviewing them with someone who sees them through the lens of our strengths, values, passions, and unique abilities; someone who genuinely believes and sees the best IN us. (That is a game changer…believe me.)
4. Challenging the lies or faulty negative weakness-focused interpretations and judgments of ourselves with objectivity…what do we actually know?
5. Suspend filling in missing information with negatively slanted ‘mis-information’ that does not serve us.
6. Finally we write in new preferable endings to each story based on new knowledge of self that is based in truth about our God-given strengths, values, passions, and experiences reframed to see our own unique approaches.

So you see, we reframe and rewrite our own stories to end in truth and grace; not lies and judgment.

THAT is why woman after woman keeps emerging from LYV with a whole new chapter they are thrilled about!

If you do not challenge those “sad sucky stories” (as one client put it), you will keep repeating them, and as I said, no amount of hard work or accomplishment will allow you to truly live.

Join us for the adventure of your life! Don’t just watch us – join us or rejoin us. We are excited to see this year be more than we could ask for or imagine. How about you?
